Faculty of Engineering Department of Engineering
Information Systems Engineering
Through the development and operation of applications and systems
Solving problems in people's lives and businesses
Special Features of the Department
-
-
We aim to develop the ability to empathize with the problems people face in their daily lives and solve them by developing and operating apps and systems. We offer a gradual curriculum that is easy for beginners to follow, as well as project-based lessons in collaboration with companies and local governments. You can continue to learn with a high level of motivation.
Three points
- Learn the basics of mathematics and programming through practical classes
- Cultivating the ability to use information technology to solve social issues
- Collaborating with companies and local governments to tackle data analysis, app development, etc.
Flow of the four years
-
First year
Build a solid foundation in mathematics, information, and data science, and learn design thinking
While firmly establishing the foundations of mathematics, information, and data science that will steadily support four years of learning, students will also acquire design thinking, which is necessary for tackling problems, and the basic knowledge necessary to study engineering and become an engineer. In the first-year seminar, students will participate in a concrete project (PBL), experientially learning problem-solving skills and experiencing team activities. This will foster motivation for specialized learning.
e.g.Calculus Basics/Applications, Linear Algebra Basics/Applications, Computer Science Basics, Design Thinking A, First-Year Seminar
-
Second Year
Understand how to use information technology to solve social problems
Based on the foundations of the first year, students will solidify their foundations as software engineers. In addition to learning the theory required for software design in subjects such as software engineering, students will gain practical experience as IT engineers in subjects such as the basics of system development, C++ programming, and databases.
Through courses that consider project management and social issues, students will gain an understanding of the key points involved in implementing information technology in society and improve their practical skills as IT engineers.e.g.Fundamentals of software engineering, software design, fundamentals of system development, databases, project management
-
Third Year
Deepen your expertise while gaining practical experience in system development
This year will be a year in which you will build on the foundations of software engineering and enhance your practical skills while building your own strengths. You will strengthen your practical skills in system development through subjects such as software development, application development, and database exercises, and gain practical experience through project research.
The course includes subjects such as AI, image recognition, security, and global engineering that will allow students to develop their expertise while imagining their future careers.e.g.Project research, application development, software development practice, AI business, security
-
Fourth Year
Equipping the next generation of engineers with the knowledge and skills needed in the real world
Based on the knowledge and skills you have acquired so far, from the basics to your specialized fields, you will use them in your graduation research, discover your own theme, and plan and promote the implementation of loving technology. In doing so, you may also have the opportunity to work on real projects in collaboration with companies and local government agencies.
In addition to the specialized subjects learned in their majors, students will also study robotics and other subjects to develop the next generation of engineers equipped with the knowledge and skills required in the real world.e.g.Special lecture on systems engineering, graduation research
Class Introduction
-
Special Course on Systems Engineering A/B
Person in charge: Professor Atsushi Koshio
This is a course that brings together all of the knowledge you have gained in information systems. You will collaborate with companies and local organizations, mobilize all of the knowledge you have gained in software development, AI, and IoT, and develop new solutions that contribute to solving social and corporate issues. Through dialogue with society and practitioners, you will feel a sense of fulfillment as a systems engineer and increase your motivation.
-
Fundamentals of System Development
Person in charge: Professor Takeshi So / Associate Professor Yoshinori Tsukada
Using Access, which allows anyone to build an independent system on their own, you will develop a member management system that you can actually use. You will learn basic skills for system development, such as databases (SQL) and VBA using a GUI, as well as the flow of system development, such as specification creation, database design, screen design, and form design, and you will also learn the outline of PMBOK and Common Framework 2013.
-
Special Course in Future Engineering A/B
Person in charge: Professor Ryosuke Shibasaki / Professor Atsushi Koshio / Associate Professor Ayumi Arai
By understanding the future challenges facing people's lives and society and the environment, students will deepen their knowledge through concrete examples of technological development and discuss the direction of solving these problems. Focusing on issues such as Japan's population problem and aging social infrastructure, students will be able to apply what they have learned to their future career development and study plans as engineers.
Student Interview
Why did you choose this major?
I chose this major because I was attracted by the environment where I could learn both technical skills and team building at the same time. Interaction with people is important in problem solving, so I was also attracted by the fact that I could improve my communication skills. In addition, there are plenty of lectures and seminars where you can learn practically everything from identifying issues to developing and implementing systems, and the environment in which you can grow through learning was also a major deciding factor. In addition to basic technology, I am strongly attracted by the fact that I can gain the skills to work together in a team while experiencing the actual development process.
What are you particularly focusing on learning?
As a leader in group work, I am working hard to improve my communication skills and appropriate role sharing methods. In addition, I am focusing on learning programming and coding skills with the goal of developing an escape game app and creating a website for a theater company. In addition, I am focusing on developing problem-solving skills and improving my ability to think of solutions from multiple perspectives. In the first-year seminar in my first year, I tried to implement a multi-functional campus map, and now, based on that experience, I am continuing to acquire more practical development skills and work on concrete results.
