History of student dormitories

Since the founding of Moralogy College, the predecessor of the university, in 1935, Reitaku University has made coeducational education and a boarding school one of its educational features. At the entrance to the dormitory, there is a sign that reads, "Self-disappearance and self-governance to realize God's will," and this has been the dormitory students' motto since the university's founding. Dormitory life is a place to improve one's character through communal living, and it is based on self-governance, where one governs oneself through a high moral consciousness centered on a warm heart that cares for others, rather than being governed by rules and orders from others or living by a self-centered way of thinking.

When the university opened as a four-year university in 1959, the first president of the university, Chibusa Hiroike, continued this tradition: "In order to acquire a true sense of democracy, you must be fully trained in freedom and self-government. You must be trained to be able to take part in activities that will enable you to fully demonstrate your freedom and self-government as an upstanding member of society in the future. Reitaku University The university is a place to train for this freedom and autonomy. Reitaku The TUAT has operated its dormitories based on these principles.

Later, with the changing times and the expansion of the university, we moved from a boarding school to a voluntary dormitory system. However, the traditions and spirit of "learning" from the boarding school era have been passed down unbroken. Student dormitories provide financial support for students from rural areas and international students, but more than that, they are also places where human development and international exchange can be expected to have a positive effect on learning.

The dormitory has been operated as a place of education, but the number of male students living there dropped sharply in the spring of 2020 due to the impact of the spread of COVID-19. The dormitory was then closed and operated as a women-only dormitory from the 2021 academic year onwards. While the number of undergraduate students has decreased, the demand for international students has been on the rise, so from the spring of 2025, the dormitory will be opened as a co-ed dormitory.Dormitory for exchange studentsIt is a place where students can improve their human skills by leaving their home countries and living together in Japan.
