Learn and interact with each other about Japan and the world

Towards talent who can communicate in both Japanese and English

In the first year, students have Japanese language classes five times a week, learning honorific language, how to read newspapers, and business terminology. In addition to Japanese, Faculty of Global Studies offers classes on Japanese culture and multicultural coexistence, and the class "Japanese Language and the World" offers many opportunities for group work and discussions, helping students improve their ability to communicate in Japanese. There is also an English class every day in the first period, where students learn about Japan and the world in English and hone their ability to communicate about the world.

Campus life is full of fun outside of class. Expanding your circle of friends

In the spring semester, I joined a badminton club and worked part-time 4 days a week, but in the fall semester, I increased the number of classes I take in order to study harder. I've been able to balance my work and studies by taking part-time jobs on weekdays when there are fewer classes, working during the day on weekends, and doing assignments in the evenings. Japanese students sometimes participate in Japanese classes for international students as guest students. This has led to friendships, and we've expanded our circle of interaction by interacting outside of class.

What is Japanese Class Guest?

Japanese students who are interested in interacting with international students and Japanese language education are registered as "Japanese class guests." Japanese class guests participate in classes for international students and engage in activities with international students. This is an opportunity for international students from diverse backgrounds and Japanese students to learn together.

Four years of study leads to a dream come true

A dream discovered through a wide range of learning

In my first and second years, I was free to take classes in a wide range of fields in any combination, so I took all the subjects that interested me. I feel that the skills and experiences I gained in class are the basis of my way of thinking, not only in my current research, but also when I tackle problems in my daily life and at work. From my third year onwards, I learned about language from various angles, and discovered how interesting the Japanese language is. In my fourth year, I mainly took many classes required for the Japanese teacher training course, focusing on "how to teach Japanese to foreigners." I now feel a strong desire to contribute to the development of Japanese language education in Vietnam.

Becoming a Japanese language teacher who connects Japan and Vietnam

My dream is to work as a bridge between Japan and Vietnam, and I returned to Vietnam in September this year to take the first step towards that goal. My job is to teach Japanese to Vietnamese engineers (in the construction industry) from beginner to intermediate levels, but I am not just a Japanese teacher; I also work as an interpreter for job interviews and meetings. I studied the Japanese language teacher training course in the Japanese Studies and International Communication (JIC) major, and I have acquired the skills necessary to teach Japanese, such as high Japanese language proficiency, Japanese language pedagogy, and Japanese language education and communication, and I am very happy to be able to actually teach students.

What is the "Job Hunting Support Course" that will help you fully prepare for your job hunt?

We hold courses several times a year to support the job-hunting activities of international students. We provide comprehensive support, including the flow of job-hunting in Japan, self-analysis, and self-promotion. In addition, in cooperation with the Career Center, we also operate a "Job Hunting Japanese Support Room" year-round, which provides support such as resume corrections and interview practice.

Communicating "Connecting Learning" from the Perspective of International Students

Challenge student staff with programs for high school students

As part of a high school-university collaborative class, I worked as a student staff member in the "Connecting Learning Experience Program," which gave high school students the opportunity to experience the "Connecting Learning" offered by Faculty of Global Studies. The session I worked as a student staff member was attended by many international students studying at Reitaku University, and involved exchanging opinions with the high school students about the meanings of signs and road signs found all over Japan. Working with the Japanese student staff, I created a relaxed atmosphere to ensure that the exchange of opinions went smoothly, provided perspectives on different cultures and ways of thinking, and provided interpretation in English and Vietnamese. I think we were able to create an opportunity for learning from each other while enjoying the differences in language and culture.

Support for "connecting" diverse participants

Many people with different backgrounds participated in this program, and I am very happy that I was able to be involved as a student staff member and create a learning opportunity by connecting the diverse participants. I learned the importance of teamwork and how to communicate across cultures, and experienced how getting to know each other and working together can lead to ideas that one person would not have thought of. Also, as a supporter, I have become able to think about how to create a place for active exchange of opinions. I would like to continue planning and managing global events.

Opportunities to connect with society even at university

By planning programs that utilize the perspectives of international students and participating in their operation as student staff, we are creating interactions and connections with a diverse range of people. We also have local people join in, and exchange opinions on global issues across nationalities and ages.
