Student Interview

Why did you choose this major?

I've loved English since I was in high school, and I thought, "Even if I go to university, I want to continue studying foreign languages" and "I want to go abroad." Then, I found out that a senior from the same high school was active in this major at Reitaku University, and I became interested. I was torn between Faculty of Foreign Studies, but I thought, "If I go to Faculty of Global Studies, I can acquire knowledge in various fields in addition to language," so I finally chose Faculty of Global Studies. Since I was particularly interested in international cooperation, I chose the International Exchange and International Cooperation (IEC) major. Because the class size is small, it is easy to take classes in other majors, and I also plan to participate in Japanese language teaching training overseas.

What are you particularly focusing on learning?

In the class "IEC Basic Exercise," students focus on solving problems using the PCM method in order to acquire problem-solving skills. Outside of class, students are also active in the social contribution organization "Japanesia." This organization is working on environmental issues in the Federated States of Micronesia, and they use the knowledge they have learned in classes such as "International Volunteerism" to hold environmental awareness events, pick up trash, and travel to the area. I feel that there are many students in the International Exchange and Cooperation (IEC) major who do not just study in the classroom, but take action themselves and are proactive in their activities.
