1. Support for students with disabilities at Reitaku University

① History of supporting students with disabilities

At Reitaku University, after serving as a "Preparatory Office for the Support of Students with Disabilities," the "Support Office for Students with Disabilities" (now the "Academic Support and Counseling Office") was officially established in 2018. Based on the founding principles of the university, faculty, staff, and students work together to promote academic support for students with disabilities. To ensure that all students, regardless of whether they have a disability or not, have equal opportunities for educational and research activities and can make the most of their individual abilities, support is provided in cooperation with various external organizations as well as with relevant departments within the university, such as faculties, graduate schools, and student counseling offices.

② Role of the Student Support and Counseling Room

The Academic Support and Counseling Office provides consultations regarding academic matters, based on requests (expressions of intent) from students with disabilities. Through constructive dialogue, it coordinates collaboration and cooperation (consensus building) within and outside the university so that various departments and faculty members involved in academic affairs can provide direct and indirect support. In addition, it plays the following roles, including improving the response capabilities of faculty and staff and supporting the faculty and staff who provide support:

・Consultation and request for reasonable accommodations (support content)*
- Planning and managing training sessions and case study meetings for faculty and staff.
- Training and managing student supporters
- Creation, updating, and dissemination of guidelines for supporting students with disabilities.
- Summary and report of surveys on the actual situation of students with disabilities and examples of support provided.
*Reasonable accommodations will be decided upon and provided after sufficient agreement and mutual understanding have been reached through constructive dialogue between the student and the university (their department, counselors, and the academic support consultation office, etc.).

4) It imposes an excessive burden on the University in light of its current situation (personnel, organizational, financial, etc.).
