We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act, but a habit. (Aristotle)
I enjoy watching sports, especially basketball and soccer. Occasionally, I go driving and hiking.
UAE, offers a nice contrast of a sprawling urban city (Dubai) that is right next to a bare desert. It looks like a setting for a movie! The Grand Mosque in the next city, Abhu Dhabi is the most awe-inspiring building I have ever seen. In addition, UAE is extremely safe, so you won’t have to worry about a thing.
There’s isn’t a single book for everyone, so I recommend that students start from their areas of interests. If you like movies like Harry Potter, start with the novel.
For academic subjects, find books that are written for the public reader first before you read textbooks. Of course, do not forget to read the required textbook readings once you start taking classes.
I believe learning should go beyond the classroom, so I love exploring ways to empower students to be autonomous learners who can develop their language skills by themselves. I am also fascinated by language as tool that societies use to create and sustain different cultures and values.
Learning requires repeated practice. This is true of language as it is of any other skill. As a researcher, I am looking for ways to make repeated action both enjoyable for the learner and effective for learning. I think this is a skill that students could apply to any other academic or life skills they wish to develop.

My other area of interest, Sociolinguistics, can help inform ordinary people as well as policy makers on the language needs of different groups in society. Recently, Japan has seen an increase in the number of foreign immigrants as well as international families with one Japanese parent and a foreign parent. Research in these areas could help meet the unique language needs and of children from such families.
I am drawn to two things. First, the beautiful greenery around the campus gives Reitaku a very beautiful and relaxing environment. Second, Reitaku offers both students and faculty a truly international experience. I am excited to work with, and learn from people from different parts of the world.
