Determination: It reminds me that progress often comes from the willingness to keep moving forward. It’s a word that has carried me through tough times in my academic journey, and I see its power every day in students who keep pushing forward, even when things get hard.

I enjoy going for long walks around Tokyo when the weather is nice. I also like hiking alone – it gives me a refreshing time to reset and put things into perspective.
I really enjoy hiking, so I recommend that students hike up Mount Kitadake in the Southern Alps. It offers a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji at sunrise from the summit.
I would recommend Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. It’s full of wisdom about life in general. Every time I reread this book, it gives me a new perspective.
Discourse analysis helps us understand how people use language in real life. It shows how language shapes our interactions, identities, and power dynamics. It also helps us see how language connects to lived experience.
When done critically, discourse analysis in the classroom can help challenge systemic social inequalities and empower both teachers and students to work toward positive change.
The bridge from the iFloor of the Asunaro Building to the Kaede Building is my favorite part of campus. In spring, the cherry blossoms against the red bricks of the library and the Kaede Building make it feel like something out of a storybook.
