好きな言葉（座右の銘）を教えてください。: I like a quote from the Danish philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard. He once said, “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” It means that we should learn from the past, and be positive about our future.

休日の過ごし方や趣味を教えてください。: I enjoy going out with my family to large open spaces, such as big parks, so that my children can play outside in the fresh air and use up all of their wonderful energy. I also enjoy writing short stories, which is something I have done for many years.

大学4年間で「学生に訪れてほしい場所」はどこですか？その理由も教えてください。: I would like students to explore Chiba prefecture. Chiba is often overlooked, but it has stunning beaches, a lot of great activities, and interesting places to spend a whole day out. I particularly enjoy taking my family to Borso in the summer to see the sea and visit Kamogawa Sea World.

大学4年間で「学生に読んでほしい本」は何ですか？その理由も教えてください。: I would recommend “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. Of course, it is a classic novel, but it is also not too difficult to read. The language is accessible, the story is extremely engaging, and the themes are very important. For fun, I would recommend any book by Roald Dahl. They are children’s books, but they are very enjoyable for adults as well.

専門分野に興味を持ったきっかけは何ですか？: When I was only 8 years old, I was encouraged to enter a short story competition and won. Ever since then I have loved reading and writing. Reading is, in my opinion, the best way to expand our minds. I specialized in Modern American Literature for my Master’s because I thought the writing style and themes of that category were interesting and important. As an English teacher, I would especially recommend reading English books for language learners. It is an incredibly effective way of acquiring language, and it’s fun!

専門の研究は社会にどう活かされていますか？: When it comes to my research at the moment, listening comprehension is a priority. The very first barrier to communication is understanding. If I can help students better understand the messages they hear, then the first hurdle is cleared. Communication is fundamental in life, which is why my research is focused on listening comprehension.

麗澤大学の好きなところはどこですか？: When I first came to Japan, I was taken to Reitaku University to see the Autumn foliage. The university is famous for its wonderful natural environment, and this makes it an extremely pleasant place to study. I believe it is important to have such an environment around you every day when you are learning.
